ALL ABOUT US

Hi, we're Jennifer and Kevin Yeh!

Jen and Kev both attend Morrison Academy Taichung and are now a senior and a junior in high school, respectively. Having lived in Taiwan our entire lives, we have developed a deep passion for exploring our cultural heritage, the Aboriginal people of Taiwan. We strive to preserve and promote the rich traditional Aboriginal culture as well as provide a platform for their businesses and other social-economic endeavors. Through our project, we hope to proudly show off Taiwan’s indigenous heritage and to bridge the gap between the Taiwanese indigenous people and the world, allowing urbanites to discover and experience authentic Aboriginal culture. Furthermore, we are also eager advocates for the Satoyama Initiative, which aims to build a long-term mutual relationship between humans, the environment, and the economy.

We invite you to embark on this great adventure with us and explore the Taiwanese indigenous people together.

OUR PURPOSE

On top of geographical isolation and the initial struggles to earn a living, the recent COVID 19 pandemic outbreak has only further devastated the livelihood of the Taiwanese Aboriginals. Thus, this website primarily serves as a media platform to promote aboriginal businesses through travel recommendations and online product shopping. All accomplished in the interest of the Aboriginals, we hope to assist the indigenous people in their economic endeavors as well as promote and sustain Aboriginal culture.

OUR INSPIRATION

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.”-  Marcus Garvey

While embarking on our own personal journey to explore our island's roots, we discovered just how beautiful and rich Taiwan's Aboriginal culture really is. Unfortunately, not many are well-educated about Taiwan's indigenous identity. In an effort to preserve and spread the Aboriginal culture, we have responded to what we believe to be our personal calling, to instill hope in the indigenous people and to contribute to the effort of reviving and sharing Taiwan's Aboriginal heritage.

GREATER PERSPECTIVE

Essential Spirit

The Satoyama Initiative is a 2010 United Nations environmental protection policy to realize societies in harmony with nature. It's a global effort to transform our planet into a place where nature and humans can coexist.

THE SATOYAMA CERTIFICATION

We award the Satoyama Aboriginal Certification to Aboriginal-owned businesses or businesses promoting Aboriginal culture who embody the Satoyama Initiative spirit. These businesses are guaranteed to comply with government environmental policies and regulations as well as operate in an eco-friendly manner.

WHY THE NEED?

As current global practices have failed to sustain a healthy environment and instead, brought us closer to a state of endangered existence, we must take action now. However, environmental protection almost always comes at a human or economic price. Hence, the Satoyama Initiative aims to form a mutual, long-term relationship between humans, the environment, and the economy.

WHAT IS SATOYAMA INITIAVE TAIWAN?

Partnering with Professor Liu of the University of Taiwan, who is also the Taiwan ambassador for the Satoyama Initiative as well as a close associate with one of the Atayal tribe leaders, this personal project of Jennifer and Kevin Yeh works to help the Taiwanese Indigenous Tribes and their economic struggles.

Through our government-funded enterprise, we implement the Satoyama Initiative into the local Taiwanese indigenous communities to create an eco-friendly and business-friendly positive feedback cycle, achieving our goal of creating harmony between humans, the environment, and the economy.
